Great turnout today in Broadford in Ballinteer with over twenty people joining the protest and many more residents registering their support. The contractors only got one hours work done before their digger was blockaded and spent the rest of the day filling in holes and painting one of their lorries!
Hundreds of information leaflets are now going through the doors of the estate to update residents on today's protest and advertising another protest tomorrow morning.
Éirígí's Brian Leeson, himself a local resident, encouraged people to join the water meter protests in the area, "Over the last few months peaceful protests in Hillview, Mountain View, Bearna Park, Sandyford Park, Moreen, Whitechurch, Ballyogan and now Broadford have prevented the installation of unwanted water meters.
By standing together residents have won real victories. Metering is an essential element of the commodification process which will in turn lead to the full privatisation of water services and resources. I'd strongly encourge people from Broadford and the surrounding estates to join the protest tomorrow morning. Together we can win."
